Overwhelmed and Burnt-Out to Balanced and At Peace

About Me
Welcome to The Quiet Teacher — a space for mindful, introverted, and minimalist educators.
I’m Liz, an Australian teacher, writer, and advocate for balance and authenticity in both life and the classroom. The Quiet Teacher is my heart project — a place where I share reflections and strategies for educators who seek calm, purpose, and connection without compromising their inner peace.
As an introvert, I’ve always been drawn to quiet spaces and thoughtful conversations. Early in my teaching career, I realised that traditional classrooms often prioritised busyness over presence, and I felt the weight of constant noise and overstimulation. That’s when I began exploring mindfulness, minimalism, and the Swedish concept of lagom — living in just the right balance.
I discovered that while teaching isn’t always a sanctuary, you can nurture pockets of calm within your day. By intentionally curating peaceful moments, fostering meaningful connections with students, and embracing simplicity, I found ways to soften the chaos and teach from a place of authenticity and self-compassion.
This blog is where I share what I’ve learned (and am still learning) on that journey. Whether you’re looking for strategies to protect your energy, ideas for cultivating a calm classroom, or simply reassurance that it’s okay to be a quiet presence in a loud world — you’re in the right place.
I believe that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but about creating safe spaces for growth — for our students and for ourselves. Through my writing, I hope to help you embrace your quiet strength, honour your need for stillness, and find sustainable joy in your work as an educator.
Thank you for being here. Let’s build a community where quiet teachers thrive.
With warmth and gratitude,
Liz
